Five specialized roles—Schema Master, Domain Naming Master, Infrastructure Master, PDC Emulator, and RID Master —that perform unique operations. Each role can run on any Domain Controller but only one instance of each role is active. The Schema Master and Domain Naming Master exist once per-forest while the Infrastructure Master, PDC Emulator, and RID Master exist once per domain.
